On the slouch

I've noticed something about my style lately. It seems that I've grown rather fond of more loose fitting pieces. Tent dresses, oversized shirt dresses, slouchy fit dresses, etc.

It started the summer before this one when I picked up some good vintage pieces with this kind of silhouette. One was a black cotton drop waist dress from Bethesda Thrift Shop in Madison. Then this summer, I found some more slouchy, loose fitted pieces.

This khaki vintage Issey Miyake number was one of those acquisitions. I picked it up at one of my favorite vintage boutiques in Brooklyn, NY called MAHPS Vintage. Oh, there's so much goodness at that shop.  Sigh.

I started to wonder a bit about why my sartorial selections of late have veered towards this type of silhouette. (You mean you don't wonder about why you wear the things you do? #bloggerproblems) Here is what I decided.  I think it has a lot to do with me struggling with casual dressing. I love vintage dresses, but I tend to always be dressed up.

Also, vintage garments are not always made in the most breathable, or for that matter, natural fabrics. Lots of polyester. But super fun prints and stuff.  Oh, the dilemma. Lately, though I've found some really lovely vintage things in cotton.  It's like striking gold.

So yeah, that's what I came away with.  I need to look more casual sometimes, and I need an alternative to synthetic fibers. Whatever the reason, though, I'm embracing it.

I think shirt dresses have had a real surge this summer too. This one is lovely! I'm always a fan of natural fibre clothes in HK as well with the heat.

Now that Autumn is here though....hello knitwear! Never thought I'd be the kind of person who would look forward to wearing jumpers. Clearly I've been in HK for too long!

I love love love baggy shirt dresses and wore loads over the summer too! This AW I've found myself drifting towards loose fitting pinafores, worn with tighter roll necks and long sleeved tees underneath. So happy that Autumn has finally arrived in the UK!

I love the shirt dress! It's so versatile--it's very cozy/casual but you still look very dressed up. You have the perfect silhouette for this style Norbyah. Looks really good on you! The color too.
