Dusk always makes me feel nostalgic.
I'm not sure if it's because it's my favorite time of day, and I remember loving it way back as a fifth grader when I lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was the time of day when all time seemed to stand still, it was more peaceful on the street than other times of the day, and my mum would be calling us in from riding our bikes. Or maybe it's because the yellowy pink glow of the sky actually makes everything look filtered in sepia, like an old photograph.
These days, life is so busy that I often miss this time of day in the blur of getting kids bathed, sitting down for dinner and starting homework.
The light itself is difficult to capture, and it only lasts mere minutes. It's just past that time of day that bloggers refer to as the golden hour when the light is just perfect for pictures. But that's what makes it the best. It's fleeting. One of those wonderful things in life that, if remembered, makes you glad you stopped to take a look.
I had to touch this one up because it was too dark, but I love how it turned out. |
Every now and again, though, I'll remember to stop. Like on this day last week, when we were rushing to our roof to snap these before the light was gone.
At first I was concerned about getting the pictures taken before it was too late. It was hard for my big girl to hold the camera steady enough and these are probably blurry to the professional eye, but that's okay because my big girl felt so happy to help. And just as we finished and were on our way back downstairs, I paused.
As I look back now, I can just see a hint of that sepia color that I love.

Oooh this dress! I really like how you paired it with the headscarf and denim shirt - a bit of Rosie the Riveter / 50's housewife. :)
