Simple Summer Style

Since stepping off the plane to start my summer vacation, I've gone into take it easy mode.  I packed clothes that could be styled in multiple ways, wouldn't need much ironing, and captured the freshness of summer.

For me, that means sandals, scarves and cotton or jersey knit.  This red, white and blue outfit sort of sums it up for me.  I don't know why, but this color combo always makes me think of summer; probably because in America, July 4th is the summer holiday for all.

The summer t-shirt from American Apparel is easy to match with lots of other things I brought, this red and white jersey knit skirt was a steal in Stanley Market, and those red sandals from Menorca just scream summer.  I'll be living in them over the next several weeks.

More than that, this is the perfect outfit for sipping wine in the backyard of my in laws' house in small town Illinois, watching the kiddos scream around barefoot as they play hide and seek, ride their bikes and blow bubbles.

I'm finding myself slipping my feet out of these sandals to feel the gentle tickle of the real grass between my toes.  And I'm loving the relaxing sound of the leaves as they rustle in the breeze.

And though I'm not posing in the back alleys of Stanley Market, this shed door works just fine.  I have been doing some research on blog poses.  I think this post on Cocorosa is a good place to start.  I'm not sure which kind of pose suits me best, but I did say that's one of my summer projects to figure it out.

By the way, if you want to get a good look at some of the charm this small town of Oglesby has, check out the hubby's Instagram feed @joey_no_  It's nostalgia at it's best.

We are having lovely weather in Illiois lately, aren't we? I live about 40 miles northwest of Chicago. Enjoy your time here. Love the skirt, by the way!

yes to that awesome wrist adornment. Packing for long stays is the hardest, man. You seem to have done a fabulous job. I just through a billion things into a suitcase and hope it works somehow

Sorry I'm missing you:( Hope it's a BLAST!!

((and I was balancing on one foot with the crutches cropped out of the frame 1 foot away. 'Twas not easy and very stupid)) ((haven't done since)) haha'
