Summer's end

Well, it had to happen.  There was no getting around it.  Our summer is over.

The children are growing so quickly.

I'm going to try not to sound like a brat because I feel so incredibly fortunate to be able to have a summer holiday like this one, but at this time of the summer, it's hard not to feel down.

Theo waits to be 'bombed' by peanuts.

We fly back to Hong Kong on Sunday.  There are many things I cannot wait for.  First and foremost, I cannot wait to sleep in my own bed.   I also cannot wait to see my parents (they arrive the same evening).  I'm looking forward to seeing my friends and hearing about their exciting summer adventures.

Buddy with the boys.

But, I'm not ready to let go of the summer just yet.  And, especially this one.  Lots of time with cousins, sisters, etc.  And, it's kind of been a nostalgic tour for our family.

This week we were up in Madison.  We've always said, if there ever were a place we'd call home in the US, it would probably be Madison.  After all, we bought our first house here and two of our children were born here.

The girls at AJ Bombers.

Driving along the streets that we still know so well, we found ourselves thinking only of the fond memories that were made there.

It was hard to leave.  It's always hard to leave. And, though I hate goodbyes, I know we'll be back.

Pictures are from our visit in Madison with our very good friends.

You just said everything that I'm thinking. It's so bittersweet when summer comes to an end. Right now, it's kind of bitter, huh? All I say to my mom these days is how time just flies. I hate goodbyes too - thinking about them immediately makes a lump in my throat. I'm never prepared for it even though it's inevitable. You're right, we just have to be grateful for the adventures we can have to travel and see family and friends.

Photos are adorable! always such a treat to see them.
