I spoke to Emily last night. She met Rubin on Monday. Today, she picks him up and he becomes a part of the Samson family. Forever.
I've been priveleged to go along on this adoption journey with Emily while at the same time going on my own journey of motherhood. One of the strongest bonds I have with Emily is our connection as fellow mothers. Now, of three. She's enjoyed the stages of pregnancy and birth with me, while I've enjoyed and learned about the stages of adoption with her.
And while each experience is unique, there is one amazing similarity. That is the overwhelming power of unconditional love. Love makes a family. There are no words to describe the amount of love you have for a child you have yet to meet. That anticipation and excitement of finally seeing that face and knowing that there isn't anything in the world that you wouldn't do for your child. I know it from my own experience. I've seen it as I've read about Emily's experience. And I get to watch it everyday with the Halcrows.
And, I'm awed by it.
The other day I watched Joey on the couch with Cally in his lap. Both cooing at each other. Sharing silent looks that speak volumes. And he said as she smiled, you love me Cally. You don't even know what love is yet, but you love me.
Cally and Joey.
Rubin and Emily.
