Etsy Confessions: Wild Canyons & Whiskey

At the start of this Etsy Confessions series I mentioned the number of ways you can find good sellers on Etsy.  I stumbled onto Vera Wilde's shop, Wild Canyons & Whiskey, one day when I happened to be searching for something very specific (jumpsuits as I recall).  Rather than browsing in my favorite shops, I search for items.  In doing this, on more than one occasion, I've actually discovered new favorite shops, like Vera's.

What struck me, right away, was Vera's personal attention.  Not only did she agree to reserve an item for me, but when there was a mix up about the jumpsuit I'd found, she sent me a very genuine personal message in which she apologized and even offered me a discount on another item.  Now, that's good customer service.  The kind that's hard to come by these days.

How would you describe yourself?
I am very introspective, and I spend a lot of time attempting to uncover truths about our existence. I soak my soul in mystery, in myth, in symbolism. I spend more time than I intend to deep within reflection, I also spend more time than I intend to planning the route to an ideal reality. Aka: I'm an introvert.

What are your interests? Your profession? Your aspirations?
I'm a photographer, jewellery designer, and owner of an online vintage collection called Wild Canyons & Whiskey. If it wasn't for photography I'd probably be pursuing a career in writing fiction. Growing up I was convinced that I'd be a published novelist by the age of eighteen. I've started writing countless novels, none of which have seen completion, one day, perhaps in old age. I'm also very passionate about expanding consciousness, spirituality, the science of thought. I'm starting to practice Reiki, I recently received my level 1 attainment which was an incredible experience.

Why did you decide to open a shop on Etsy? How long have you been on Etsy?
When I was living in Los Angeles during high school I spent countless hours in vintage shops on Ventura blvd, a few blocks from my house: American Vintage, Iguana, Handmade's vintage section, it really spoke to that very large nostalgic part of me. I made the decision then that I'll have a shop of my own one day. When I was nineteen I discovered Etsy and that little dream became very tangible. A few days after my 20th birthday (May of 2012) I opened up Wild Canyons & Whiskey :)

Significance of your Etsy shop name?
I had spent a lot of time in southern California, I would say that I spent the most critical part of my development beneath the palms and canyons. I left 2 years ago to move to the Pacific North West, but California will always remain a soul-mate. Wild Canyons & Whiskey is a short compression of my youth in one of the most incredible places I know.

What do you look for when you buy items for your shop?
If a piece speaks to me then I'll buy it, floral, sheer, fringe, knit, crochet, beaded, tie dye, leather, fur, flow, earthy, rock n roll. It's such an exciting process for me.

What do you like about Etsy?
I honestly love everything about Etsy, the community, the resources it provides the sellers with, the layout and simplicity. I'm really grateful for Etsy!

Vera's shop just emanates her free-spirited bohemian nature and love for the natural world,  I love it.  It's not the era or selection of vintage that I have very much of, but nonetheless, I love it.  Don't just take my word for it.  Click on the shop link and go there yourself!
