Little Valentines

In our house, Valentine's Day is about our family.  Joey and I don't make a big deal out of it for ourselves because it just isn't that important.  It's easy for me to say this because I feel incredibly fortunate to have a sweet and loving hubby who makes me feel special all the time - insert collective awws here - I can't say it without sounding cheesy, but he really is the best.

So, I make Valentine's Day a day for us to show each other how much we love one another.  I get the kids to make secret valentines and hide them so that on the morning of Valentine's Day, they hop out of bed with grins on their faces, run to their hiding spots and surprise each other with their sweet messages.  It's only the second year we've really done this, and I'm quite fond of this tradition already.

This year, I added little valentines of my own to their school lunches.  It took a bit more time because I had two to pack and one for little Cally's snack box, too.

Eva and Jojo also get in on the Valentine's Day action.  In fact, its because of their thoughtfulness on this day, that I felt moved to add our own tradition.  From the first year Eva joined our family, and now with Jojo, they have never forgotten Valentine's Day.  We'll wake up to find they've brought a few roses and chocolates, or a sweet card.  This year, Eva baked a heart-shaped cake for all of us to share.

It was just lovely.
